This birthing-room project at Manning Base Hospital carried a grass image across the window, its frame and the surrounding walls. Rather than stopping the picture at the glazing, we prepared one layout for the window area and the return wall on the left.
We worked from an existing image, using high-tack vinyl for the wall graphics and preparing the window pieces separately on white-backed vinyl. The prints were finished with a matte laminate. High-tack is a material we regularly use for internal walls because ordinary sign vinyl can struggle to grip modern wall paints. The layout also had to account for the face of the window frame.
The graphics were fitted to the inside of the window, across the frame and onto the adjacent walls. Keeping the grass stems and light aligned through those changes in surface was an important part of bringing the finished room together.
