Van Signage Newcastle

Big Canvas. Better Branding.

A van gives your business one of the largest advertising spaces it will ever own. That doesn’t mean every centimetre needs to be filled. Good van signage is about using that space properly, making the right information stand out, giving the design room to breathe and creating something that looks professional whether the van is parked at a job site or moving through traffic. At Big Colour, we design and install commercial van graphics for businesses across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter, from simple branded graphics through to partial and full wraps. Our focus is not just covering the vehicle. It’s making the business behind it look better.

A Van Should Work Hard For Your Business

For many service businesses, the van is one of the most visible parts of the company.

It might sit parked outside a job in Charlestown all day, wait in traffic on the Pacific Highway and get reversed up the driveway at the next quote, working the same areas across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter week after week.

But visibility alone isn’t enough.

A good van design should tell people who you are quickly, make the important information easy to find and create a professional image that customers remember.

Good Design Is Knowing What Not To Fill

One of the biggest mistakes in vehicle graphics is trying to use every available piece of space. Strong van graphics rely on hierarchy and balance: your business name and branding should lead, supporting information should be there when it matters without competing for attention, and negative space is part of the design.

A good van wrap should also look like one design, not six panels that happen to meet. Door handles, body lines, sliding doors, windows, recesses and rear doors all affect how artwork is positioned, and where a graphic flows around the side and onto the rear we make that transition feel intentional rather than looking like separate pieces joined together.

From Simple Graphics To Full Wraps

Not every van needs the same level of coverage. Some businesses only need clean logos, contact details and services; others want a stronger visual presence. We regularly produce:

The size of the van shapes what works best. A small van such as a Caddy or Berlingo has tidy flat sides that take cut vinyl or a wrap cleanly, while a mid-size van such as a Transit Custom or Hiace gives you proper space down each side plus the rear doors, and suits most mobile trades.

A large high-roof van or an LDV is the biggest canvas and the highest impact, though the deeper body channels and cavities take more install time and careful prep. LDV vans in particular need the recesses cleaned exceptionally well for the vinyl to hold.

Installation Matters Just As Much As Design

Deep recesses, compound curves and long body panels mean the vinyl has to go on without excessive stretching. Once installed, critical sections are post-heated to around 90°C to stabilise the film, and where appropriate we remove handles and lights for a cleaner finish.

We fit cast vinyl, 2 to 4 mil, from 3M, Avery Dennison, Oracal, Arlon or Hexis, in our Gateshead workshop. With proper care the wrap lasts five to seven years, our workmanship carries a one-year warranty against the vinyl lifting, and when the van is eventually sold or re-signed the vinyl comes off cleanly, as long as the paint was sound when it went on.

Keeping Your Van On The Road

If your new van is joining vehicles we’ve already branded, we take that into account, keeping the same materials and approved colour setup your existing fleet was produced with.

The time required depends on the amount of coverage. Simple graphics may only take a few hours, a partial wrap may often be completed within a day, and a full wrap can require around two days depending on the vehicle and complexity of the job.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Should I get cut vinyl or a full wrap on my van?

If your branding is mainly your name, number and logo, cut vinyl does the job and costs less, large graphics start around $650. If you want full-colour artwork, photos or a background colour covering the whole van, a printed wrap is the way, with vans on the price guide from $2,800 (quarter) to $8,650 (full).

Do I have to wrap the whole van, or can I just do the sides?

You choose the coverage. Plenty of tradies just do the two sides and rear doors with cut-vinyl signage, which keeps the cost down while still being seen at every job and in traffic. We can quote anything from simple door signage up to a full printed wrap.

Can you wrap a Caddy or small van as well as a big Transit?

Yes, from small vans like a Caddy or Berlingo through to mid-size Transits and Hiaces and large high-roof vans. Bigger vans give you more advertising space; smaller ones are quicker and cheaper. We'll match the design to the panels you've got.

How much does a vehicle wrap cost?

It depends on the vehicle and how much you cover. As a guide: a quarter wrap starts around $1,400, and a full wrap ranges from about $4,500 on a compact to $8,650 on a large van. See our price guide for the full matrix.

How long does a vehicle wrap last?

With proper care, a high-quality cast vinyl wrap lasts 5–7 years. Washing by hand and garaging the vehicle helps it last longer.

How long will my vehicle be off the road?

Most vehicles are wrapped and back on the road in 1–2 days. We keep your vehicle off the road for as little time as possible.

Can the wrap be removed later?

Yes. Our wraps can be safely removed without damaging the original paint, provided the paint was in good condition when the wrap was applied.

Can you wrap a car with old or cracked paint?

No. Vinyl needs a smooth, sound surface to adhere properly, so we can't wrap over old or cracked paint.

Do I get a design before you start?

Yes. Once your 50% deposit is paid, our in-house team designs your project and sends digital proofs for your approval. Nothing is printed until you have signed off on the design.

How should I care for my vehicle wrap?

Hand wash with a mild, non-abrasive detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid high-pressure washes and waxing.

What is the difference between cut vinyl and printed vinyl?

Cut vinyl is a single colour, ideal for lettering and simple logos. Printed vinyl allows full-colour, complex designs and photographic images.
