Which type of shopfront sign suits your shop

Most shopfronts come down to a few options. A flat fascia sign, printed or cut vinyl on an ACM panel above the door, is the workhorse: clean, cost-effective, and easy to read from across the street. 3D fabricated lettering, where each letter is cut and raised off the wall, throws a shadow and reads as more premium. Illuminated lightboxes and LED-lit letters keep working after dark, so if your trading hours run into the evening they earn their keep.

We design, fabricate and install all of it in-house at Gateshead. Have a look at what's around your strip first, the answer is usually a mix, like a fascia panel with raised letters over the entry.

Materials, and why we pick what we pick

The material decides how long the sign lasts outdoors. ACM (aluminium composite) is our default for fascia and panel signs, flat, light, rout-cuttable and good for years in the weather. Acrylic (Perspex) gives a glossier, more premium face and suits raised letters and lightbox fronts. Polycarbonate is close to unbreakable, so it's the call for anywhere a sign might cop a knock. Cut vinyl lettering goes straight onto glass or panel and lasts 5–8 years depending on sun. Whatever the face, the print gets a UV laminate so the colours hold instead of fading out by the second summer.

Built to last, installed on site, in Newcastle

Our outdoor signs carry a 3-year warranty, actual lifespan varies a bit with which way the sign faces and how much western sun it cops. Once your artwork's approved most jobs are finished within about two weeks, and our crew installs on site so it's hung straight, level and safe.

A good sign is the sign of a good business, it's the first thing kerbside traffic reads, and on a busy Newcastle or Lake Macquarie retail strip it's often the only chance to pull someone in. Spread over its life a sign is cheap: a $5,000 shopfront that lasts five years works out around $19 a week to keep your name out front.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

Do you handle the council permit for my shopfront sign?

We don't lodge permits ourselves, but we'll guide you through the process and provide the technical specs and drawings you need to apply. Signage rules vary by council across Newcastle and the Hunter, so it's worth checking before you commit to a design.

What's the difference between flat lettering and 3D fabricated letters?

Flat lettering is printed or cut vinyl applied to a fascia panel, clean and cost-effective. 3D fabricated letters are individually cut and mounted off the wall so they cast a shadow and read as more premium. Both can be lit if you want the sign working after dark.

Can my shopfront sign be lit up at night?

Yes. We make illuminated lightboxes and LED-lit 3D letters with aluminium frames and opal acrylic faces, with adjustable brightness to suit the site. It's worth it if your trading hours or foot traffic run into the evening.

What is the difference between cut vinyl and printed vinyl?

Cut vinyl is a single colour, ideal for lettering and simple logos. Printed vinyl allows full-colour, complex designs and photographic images.

What types of signs do you make?

Shopfronts, illuminated and lightbox signs, 3D lettering, banners, wall graphics, billboards, corflute, window and floor graphics, and more.

What materials do you use for signs?

ACM (aluminium composite), acrylic, polycarbonate, vinyl, corflute and PVC, chosen to suit the location and lifespan you need.

Can you install signs at my location?

Yes. Our team installs on site to suit your requirements.

What is the turnaround time for signage?

Standard turnaround is 5–10 business days from artwork approval. Rush services are available for an additional fee.

Do you offer warranties on signs?

Yes, a 3-year warranty on outdoor signs (the lifespan can vary with which way the sign faces and its sun exposure).
