Guide
How long does a vehicle wrap last?
Quick answer
A quality cast-vinyl wrap lasts about 5–7 years with proper care. How long yours lasts depends on the vinyl grade, where the vehicle is parked, sun exposure, and how it’s washed. Hand washing and garaging make the biggest difference.
It’s the first thing most people ask before committing to a wrap: how long will it actually last? Here’s the honest answer and what moves the needle.
| Factor | Shorter life | Longer life |
|---|---|---|
| Vinyl grade | Cheap calendered vinyl | Premium cast (3M, Avery, Oracal) |
| Parking | Outdoors in full sun | Garaged or shaded |
| Washing | Automatic brush washes, high-pressure | Gentle hand wash |
| Surface | Horizontal panels (roof, bonnet) | Vertical panels (doors, sides) |
| Care | Neglected, harsh cleaners | Regular gentle cleaning |
The realistic number
On premium cast vinyl, properly installed and looked after, expect around 5–7 years before the wrap starts to show its age. Vertical panels like doors last longest; horizontal panels that cop direct sun (roof, bonnet) age fastest.
What you can do to make it last
Hand wash with a mild detergent and a soft cloth, skip the automatic brush washes and high-pressure hoses near the edges, and park in the shade or a garage when you can. Deal with bird droppings and fuel spills quickly, left on the vinyl they can stain. We send every customer home with a care guide for exactly this.
When it’s time to replace
Fading, lifting edges or a dull, chalky finish are the signs. The good news: vinyl that’s under about 4 years old usually peels off cleanly with no mark on the paint, so re-wrapping or refreshing your branding is straightforward.
