For the majority of our commercial vehicle wraps and fleet graphics, we specify Arlon SLX Cast Vinyl paired with Arlon Series 3270 2-mil overlaminate.
Arlon SLX is a 2-mil (50 micron) cast film engineered with FLITE Technology. Unlike calendered vinyls, cast films like SLX have significantly higher conformability, with an average elongation of 190%. This allows the material to stretch deeply into recessed panels, around rivets, and over complex body contours without distorting the printed image, which is exactly what is required for high-quality fleet work.
The FLITE adhesive system features built-in air egress channels and a low initial tack, which gives our installers the ability to reposition the film during application. This results in fewer wrinkles, bubbles, and installation defects, particularly on the varied surfaces found on commercial vans and utes.
After printing, we laminate with Arlon’s Series 3270 protective film. This 2-mil overlaminate provides excellent UV resistance, abrasion protection, and dimensional stability, all of which directly contribute to the long-term performance of the graphic.
Critical Installation Steps
Prior to application, every vehicle receives a thorough multi-stage cleaning process to remove all traces of wax, polish, silicone, and road grime. Any remaining contamination is one of the leading causes of premature edge lift.
Once applied, all edges and seams are post-heated to between 95°C and 105°C. This step fully activates the pressure-sensitive adhesive and creates a significantly stronger bond to the substrate.
Expected Lifespan
Arlon warrants the SLX film for up to 7 years on vertical surfaces. Horizontal surfaces such as bonnets and roofs typically achieve 3–4 years due to substantially higher UV and abrasion exposure. Vehicles in coastal areas require regular washing to prevent salt from accelerating wear, while garaged vehicles with proper maintenance regularly exceed 8 years.
We provide a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. This warranty is void if the vehicle is subjected to automatic car washes or high-pressure cleaning.
